Dave Gibbons at the Leadership Summit

Here is part IV of my notes from this year’s Leadership Summit in Chicago. The Summit was inspirational, challenging, and insightful. Dave Gibbons, innovative leader and social entrepreneur, shares about the rise of the ‘Third Culture leader. In an era of maximum change, there is a need to develop a new mindset of how to impact the world. Here are the notes from his talk:

Third culture is the mindset and will to love, learn, and serve in any culture, even in the midst of pain and discomfort.

Loving your neighbor means loving someone not like you.

Third Culture leadership means FOCUSING ON THE FRINGE VS. THE MASSES

For the Third Culture leader, it means we have to change our metrics for the definition of success.

Failure is our success, weaknesses should guide us more than strengths, relationships should trump vision.

Third Culture leadership means we should develop deep collaboration, communal living, and radical sacrifice.

Third culture is painful adaptation. Radical love for the world means we will see God and see the beauty.

Your weaknesses become your strengths.

Your story is your power.
