Why we must ENNOBLE

Posted on June 17, 2009

This was a painting I did as a gift to my mentor. I explain the creative struggle I had with it in an earlier blog post called “Uninspired Leadership“. The theme was based on a new and intriguing word I was introduced by my mentor:

ENNOBLE: (i-noe-bel) To make noble or elevate another

I love that idea of not just serving another but elevating them to a high place- sometimes higher than your own place!  I think that is our calling as creative leaders. We are not entrusted with the power to create and lead for our own fame and fortune. Rather our gifts given to us are to raise or ennoble others. This is especially true for those who are different than us culturally, socioeconomically, or religiously. It’s an awesome responsibility. Normally, think of how much of your effort is expended for our own personal gain and glory. Shifting to be an Ennobler will not be easy. It means being forgotten, used, abused, or becoming a servant to many. But remember what our calling in life is as a creative leader:

  • To make the world a better place
  • To make the world a beautiful place

This hope and vision only comes with a sacrifice- the sacrifice of Ennoblers. However, the personal rewards will be too much to measure. Creativity and originality are a gift from the gods. Don’t squander it on your own personal gain. The world is depending on you. Steward, protect, nurture, and unleash your gifts to inspire and lead others. Ennoblers unite!

“I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living.”
