Creative leadership is not just dreaming, imagination, & innovation. It’s easy to stereotype a creative artist as always having their head in the clouds, dreaming up the next mountain to climb and always a little disconnected with the ‘real’ world. Actually, effect creative leadership couldn’t be farther from the truth.

In this broken economy, a new generation of creative leadership must bring a crystal clear understanding of reality. They have to be willing to identify what or who is the problem- and be pinpoint accurate. There is no room for vagueness or generalities. There is no ‘sweeping it under the rug’. There is only a desire to nip mediocrity in the bud regardless of personal comfort or hurt feelings. However, you have to speak the truth in love.

Your role is to make perfect decisions with imperfect information. You can only do that with two feet firmly planted in reality. You may be innovative and creative but if you can’t launch from a solid platform of realism then you’re doomed from the start. Not sure you are doing this well? You not knowing is your first clue. My personal goal is to be the most informed and knowledgeable person in the organization. It doesn’t always happen but that’s my goal. Is it yours?

Your dreams will only go higher the more you understand where ground level begins.
