Stop Monkeying Around…

I wanted to recommend a fantastic book by a great Creative Leader. Lead Pastor Dave Gibbons wrote a book called The Monkey & the Fish: Liquid Leadership for a Third Culture Church. The book’s title draws from a parable about a good willed monkey trying to save a struggling fish. The monkey pulls the fish onto dry land hoping to give it rest- not understanding that this well meaning act will lead to the ultimate demise of the fish.

That is much is like how we act as leaders. With good will and good intentions we storm into situations applying our usual methods of problem solving- causing more hurt than helping. The world is changing in exponential ways. Economically, politically, socially, technologically, culturally, the world is not the same as it was just 10 years ago- heck, just 5 years go. What it means to do business, lead in the church, or be an artist has quickly evolved into a new paradigm. As creative leaders, we need to learn to adapt and adapt fast both in practice and in mindset. Our traditional solutions are quickly becoming irrelevant. The Monkey and the Fish, will help challenge your old ways and begin you on a journey of discovering new ways to lead in the context of this strange new world we are entering in. This book will help you become a ‘Third Culture’ leader. What is that you ask? Well you will have to buy the book and see!
