I am often asked the story behind my paintings so here is a brief explanation of “Spirit & Truth”.

This painting hangs in the Green Room (artist prep room) at Newsong Church. I wanted to remind the Creative Arts Ministry that creativity is a holy act and it’s a privilege to be an artist. It’s also a reminder that we need to experience creation together as one community.

“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”

  • The overall painting represents the chaos and freedoms of creation.
  • I believe the purpose of all art is to create a sense of worship & awe of the creator.
  • The colored circles represent how we are designed to live in community
  • There is raw canvas exposed to represent the unfinished work in our lives.
  • The drips and spatters represent the uncontrolled nature of creation

  • In three places, there is ‘netting’ to represent the traps that so easily entangle us as artist- pride, jealousy, & insecurity

  • I listed some of the physical art forms of creation
