The Artist Way by Julia Cameron
This is one of the best ‘artist process’ books I have ever read. Like all books, it’s all about the timing and the context. This one came at te right moment and had a profound impact on me and my future.
“Most of us have no idea of our real creative height. We are much more gifted than we know. My tools help to nurture those gifts.”
The Illustrative Life by Danny Gregory
This is a great book for visual learners. It is a collection of artist, designers, and authors sketches from their sketch book. Their creative process is beautiful and inspirational. They share great insights on life, art, and the creative process. An excerpt from the book:
“I like a cheap, non-precious books. I don’t like them to be precious objects. I like them to get dirty and beaten up. It’s what they contain that’s more important. Small is good for sneaking around. It’s hard to do secret drawings of people in a huge , leather-bound book.”
Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross
I’m sure the last thing you expect to be on a book resource page is a comic book but I have to promo this one. This graphic novel, by legendary Alex Ross, transcends the normal comic book genre. Besides the fantastic realistic art, it really challenges you about ideas of duty, conflict, and power. If you read only one comic book in your lifetime, make it this one. Click here to buy at Amazon.
